
Leros is a wonderful and green island in South Aegean and belongs to the Dodecanese. Located between the islands of Patmos and Lipsi to the north and Kalymnos to the south and its distance from Piraeus is 179 nautical miles.
It has an area of 54.6 km2 and a coastline 83.75km, which shows the rich marine division of the coast, forming deep bays and coves.
More important is the bay of Lakki, the largest of the island and one of the safest ports in the Mediterranean, which, during the Italian occupation of the Dodecanese, was used as a naval base because of his physical importance. The island has many the shallow bays in Partheni, Plefouti, Xirokampos and Gurna all protected from the northerly winds.
Remarkable also are the bays in Alinda and Panteli, while in smaller bays the coasts, there are beaches ideal for swimming.
Worth visiting in Leros is the Castle of Leros over the capital of Platanos, the small church of Agios isidoros in the bay of Gurna,the war museum in Merkies (Laki), the small church of Mary of the crabs in Xirokampos and the tower of Belenis in Alinta.
There are noumerous beaches all over the island. The nightlife of the island is also very interesting with many cafes, bars and restaurants.
